Begin with movement and short attacks
Thief is a starting dagger vocation. Its core defensive action is Swift Step. Carve supplies basic attacks, while Twin Fangs provides a different follow-up, including interactions with vulnerable or restrained targets. Scarlet Kisses, Controlled Fall, Bump and Lift, and Footpad are examples of learnable core skills listed in the vocation reference.
The important first distinction is between moving into range and having a safe opportunity to remain there. Fast attacks do not remove the need to read what the enemy will do next.
Suggested first practice session
Start with an encounter you already understand. Approach, make a brief attack, and leave enough time to use your defensive action. Extend the attack sequence only after you can recognize a reliable opening. When something hits you, ask whether the failed decision was the approach, the attack duration or the direction of your retreat.
This practice plan is not a claim about invulnerability frames or the strongest damage sequence. It is designed to make your mistakes observable. Avoid judging the whole vocation from a fight in which unfamiliar terrain, exhausted stamina and a new skill all changed at once.
Skill selection and party support
Learned skills expand what the vocation can do, but a build copied from another player may rely on abilities you have not unlocked. Compare the guild’s learned skills with a guide’s assumptions before spending resources to reproduce it.
A party can complement a close-range player with recovery and ranged pressure. That does not mean you should keep attacking while waiting for a Pawn to rescue an unsafe position. Use the combat guide for resource management and the party guide for role coverage.
A named dagger reference
Bardiche Daggers are included in the current equipment sample with source-linked base values and shop information. Treat that as a place to investigate, not an automatic upgrade at every stage. Compare enhancement state and your current equipment before buying.
The equipment sample is deliberately small. An empty search result means that the site has not catalogued a match, not that the game contains no other daggers. No drop-rate estimate or current-patch damage test is implied by the listing.
Frequently asked questions
Does every vocation have Swift Step?
No. It is part of the Thief kit; other vocations have their own defensive actions.
Does this guide assume a maister skill?
No. The practice advice starts with the basic dagger kit rather than assuming advanced unlocks.
