Main Pawn and recruited companions

Your main Pawn is the companion you customize. Two additional recruited Pawns can complete a four-member party including the Arisen. Their association with other players does not turn them into live co-op participants. Check a candidate’s vocation and actual abilities rather than assuming appearance identifies the job it can perform.

Inclinations describe behavior

InclinationWhat the official manual emphasizes
KindheartedSupporting allies and staying close
CalmSurvival, defensive judgment and practical decisions
SimpleExploration, gathering and curiosity
StraightforwardAggressive engagement and initiative

An inclination is not a substitute for equipping the relevant skills. Our recommendation is to evaluate behavior and job together: a preferred temperament cannot supply a healing ability the vocation does not have.

Basic commands

CommandGeneral use
Go!Take initiative in combat or investigate and act during exploration
To me!Regroup near the Arisen
Wait!Hold position; combat behavior becomes more defensive or supportive
Help!Request assistance such as recovery when the party can provide it

The current manual also describes configurable long-press command behavior, including Explore and High Five. Check the settings and displayed controls for your platform; this guide does not prescribe a keyboard or controller binding.

A practical habit is to issue a command, then watch the response before repeating it. Repeating Help does not answer whether a Pawn is unable to reach you, occupied by danger or missing the required ability.

A downed Pawn needs attention

A Pawn with depleted health can become incapacitated. Approach and use the displayed revival interaction before the opportunity is lost. The manual explains that your forfeited main Pawn can be restored at a Riftstone. It also distinguishes the main Pawn’s absence from ordinary recruitment.

Do not assume an ordinary healing action is the same operation as reviving an incapacitated companion. If reaching the Pawn is unsafe, address the immediate danger rather than standing motionless in it. No revival timer is invented here.

Pawn quests and rewards

At a Riftstone, a Pawn quest can assign an objective for your main Pawn’s travels beyond the Rift. A specified reward comes from the resources the quest system asks you to provide. Review both the objective and the cost before confirming; it is not a free promise of unlimited gold.

Badges track types of experience such as defeating particular monsters or camping in relevant areas. They can add context to a companion’s experience, but the presence of a badge is not a guarantee of a flawless encounter.

Turn the rules into a party decision

Before leaving a settlement, identify the most important missing job in your group and recruit for that job. During the next journey, observe whether the party actually performs it. The party preparation guide provides example role combinations without claiming one universal best team.

Frequently asked questions

Are recruited Pawns live co-op players?

No. Pawns are AI-controlled companions, even when recruited from another player.

Does a healing command guarantee an instant heal?

No. A command asks for help within the companions’ actual abilities and circumstances.
