Check the build and the save you intend to load

Save-system guidance written for launch can differ from the updated interface. The September 2026 notes reproduced by PlayStation Universe describe three slots, with automatic, manual and inn-rest data in each. The October PC screenshots linked below show that expanded interface. Do not treat a platform-specific screenshot as proof that your installed build has exactly the same prompts.

Before an important choice, check the active character, location, play time and timestamp. Slot selection, choosing a checkpoint within a slot and starting a new adventure are different operations. If a menu does not match this description, stop before any erase or overwrite confirmation.

Automatic, interim and inn-rest data

CAPCOM's manual distinguishes Autosave, a manually made Interim Save, and a checkpoint associated with resting at an inn or dwelling. Recovering health at a campsite is not, by itself, evidence that the inn-rest checkpoint was updated.

In the documented PC interface, manual saving is under System, then Save. The continue-saving choice updates the interim checkpoint. Check its timestamp afterward. That timestamp is a better confirmation than assuming that opening a menu or finishing a conversation preserved the exact state you wanted.

The overwrite conflict to know about

The retrieved sources disagree about what happens when an older checkpoint is loaded. The current indexed PS5 manual warns that loading interim or inn-rest data overwrites the autosave. The September update notes reproduced by PSU instead say that loading an inn-rest checkpoint no longer deletes the other two types. Those statements are not safely interchangeable.

We have not personally tested which behavior applies to your platform and patch. Treat loading an earlier checkpoint as a potential loss of newer progress. Read the in-game warning and compare timestamps; do not use the existence of several cards as proof that they are independent, permanent backups. This page does not advise deleting local saves, disabling cloud synchronization or testing an overwrite with your only important character.

A new character is not a carry-over restart

The October PC walkthrough shows a separate slot picker and explicit warnings before starting over in an occupied slot. It also documents a carry-over restart that preserves level and equipment while resetting quest progress. Converting a save for that restart is not described as a reversible preview of the same ongoing world.

As a practical precaution, decide whether you want to keep playing the current adventure, start another character, or restart with existing progression before selecting any of those options. Cancel an erase prompt when the selected slot is not unmistakably the one you intended. Do not infer that every quest item, temporary state or expansion-specific record carries over simply because level and equipment do.

Before entering a new playthrough

Review unfinished quests, your intended purchases, and any information you still want to record. Save screenshots or notes of the state you mean to keep track of; those notes are not a substitute for game saved data. The quest journal guide helps separate an unfinished objective from a planned new run.

This page deliberately avoids a guessed full carry-over table and does not reveal ending solutions. Use the game's own current confirmation text as the final description of a destructive operation. Source review here is not a personal recovery test or a guarantee that an earlier campaign can be restored.

Website checklists are not game backups

The Dungeon Tracker and Collectible Tracker store only records you enter on this website. Exporting their JSON files cannot back up a character, recover a deleted save or synchronize in-game completion. Keep the two kinds of data separate when moving devices or starting another playthrough.
